About Us

Our business began in 1980, known as Manufacturing Suppliers Ltd (MSL), as a small operation in New Lynn, Auckland and is now one of New Zealand’s leading fastener suppliers. We have grown dramatically in the past thirty years and now employ over one hundred people who continue our company vision - to meet industry demands for a range of quality fasteners backed by a dependable service.

Now a wholly owned subsidiary of Steel & Tube Holdings Ltd, we take pride in supporting the New Zealand economy, and can now offer a full range of steel solutions in partnership with Steel & Tube. To reflect our expanded capabilities as a part of the Steel & Tube group, we have rebranded to Fortress Fasteners. We are pleased to embark on this next stage of our journey backed by an industry leader with a vast network across New Zealand.

Our substantial growth since the eighties has included the introduction of 9 branches nationwide. Fortress has developed into a house hold name across many kiwi industries. Our local management means we understand the local market and have the ability to make decisions rapidly and easily. Large enough to meet the demands of any customer, we are still small enough to offer the personal touch.

With our network of fully-stocked branches carrying over 300 million items and 17,000 product lines. This makes us arguably the largest fastening wholesaler in the country. Our new products, creative packaging and merchandising initiatives have also earned us a reputation as industry innovators.

We owe our success to our ability to deliver on time and in full to a wide customer base in manufacturing industries, the building trade and to building supplies merchants in New Zealand.

This, combined with the strength of our own Fortress brand and our exceptional customer service is what makes us a market leader.

We first introduced our Fortress brand to the market in 1997. Since its introduction, the brand has rapidly grown and is now a market leader with a reputation for quality and reliability.

We have invested a tremendous amount of effort (including numerous overseas visits) to add to our product and industry knowledge. This has opened up new opportunities and has allowed us to develop strong relationships with suppliers. These valuable relationships ensure we receive consistent product and enjoy reliable delivery times even in times of market fluctuations.

Now part of the Steel & Tube network we have an even stronger distribution chain and improved purchasing relationships - allowing us to provide our customers with further stock and service improvements.

Our stock is purchased both internationally and locally, ensuring we can offer quality products delivered in a timely fashion, all at a competitive price.

We carry both imperial and metric sizes in a broad range of materials and platings. Our breadth of product makes us a true one-stop-shop for fasteners and our depth of stock means we can almost always guarantee same day delivery.

Since our beginning we recognised that customer service would be the major point of difference in our industry. We have always had this focus on service and have maintained our leadership in this vital area. Having a sizeable sales team ensures that we have the resources to deal face to face with our customers, understand their business and to cater to their particular needs.
We literally go the extra mile, for example by making personal deliveries when the ‘crunch’ comes for our customers and by accommodating multiple order methods to make their lives easier.
